More about Ivan

  • GM Ivan Schitco is a seasoned expert with over 15 years of competitive experience and the youngest Grandmaster in the history of Moldova. In the last 3 years, he’s had an incredible run with several stellar performances back-to-back.
  • In 2022, he led his country to an unprecedented 6th place finish at the World Chess Olympiad, sharing the 4-6 th place with the chess powerhouses India and USA.
  • In 2023, he played shoulder-to-shoulder with giants of the game in the Fide World Cup, reaching the 3rd elimination cycle and knocking out GM Nidjat Mamedov (AZE, roughly 2630) and GM Sam Shankland (USA, 2700+ and #23 in the world at the time).
  • In these 2 years, he managed to play the former World Champion Magnus Carlsen 3 times in classical chess, out of which he drew 2 games, a feat achieved by very few players.
  • He is currently the first board of the Moldovan national team and the captain of the UT Dallas Chess Team.
